Bloom’s Taxonomy & Web 2.0

Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy & Web 2.0 Prezi

I came across this fabulous Prezi by Joshua Coupal that does into quite some detail about Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy. It is a great way to understand how Web 2.0 has changed and influenced Bloom’s original taxonomy. Students of today have changed in the way they learn and use of Web 2.0 is one way we can change our teaching practices and pedagogies. Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy emphasises collaboration and participation are essential skills of the 21st Century that students MUST learn. This presentation reinforces to me as an educator that collaboration and participation encourage students to think higher order. The digital taxonomy reflects the diversity of students today in their technological world and the way they learn. It is essential that we as educators guide students in the application and use of the tools and technologies. What I particularly like about this presentation is that it emphasises that it’s not about the tools or technologies. It is using the tools to achieve, recall, understand, apply, analyse, evaluate and create. Importantly we want to encourage our students to take risks and experiment in a safe and supportive environment.

Bloom’s has changed. Have you started integrating Web 2.0 into your teaching?
